Critical Care Unit (CCU)

Mike O’Callaghan Military Medical Center’s Critical Care Unit (CCU) is a 12-bed intensive and intermediate care ward that provides ready, reliable care to adults in in need of advanced care and monitoring. The CCU operates 24/7/365.

The CCU is located on the third floor, utilizing the B elevators.

Who We Serve

We serve TRICARE beneficiaries, VA patients and civilian ambulance arrivals.

Services

Treatment services include:

  • Management of acute medical conditions that require advanced care by highly trained staff to treat critically ill patients.
  • Management of acute and chronic conditions that require less attention than critical illness but require more advanced monitoring and care than can safely be provided by our multi-service unit.

Visitation

The CCU is open 24/7/365 for visitors. Visitors are discouraged during shift changes between 6:00 a.m. and 8 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

The CCU is an entry-controlled unit and visitors must ring the bell for entry. Visitors are required to check-in with staff before visiting. Two visitors are permitted in a patient’s room at a time. This policy is subject to change.

Sleeping overnight in the lounge or patient room is discouraged unless the patient prognosis is grave. Accommodations may be made if a special request has been made for a patient that may require closer monitoring.

Children under the age of 12 are not allowed in the CCU unless permission is granted by the nurse in charge and under direct parental supervision. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
